Building with K and V Homes turned out to be much easier than I thought it would be.  I had heard horror stories about grumpy builders and late deadlines.  Whenever I communicated with Dean, he was always very pleasant.  He promptly returned my phone calls (sometimes several a day) or e-mails and addressed questions immediately.  Because this was our first time building, we often were unsure of what decision to make.  Dean would give us the pros and cons so that we could choose what would best fit our lifestyle.  I liked the creativity in changing floor plans and getting to personalize our house just the way we wanted it.  K and V built us a beautiful, quality home that we absolutely love.  IF we ever decided to move again, K and V would be our first call.  Tony and Michelle Rogers

Our family relocated to Waukee last year.  We had previously lived in a large home and were planning to build a home.  We decided to look at newly constructed homes for ideas and possibly find one that suited our needs.  We looked at thirty or so elegant homes in Des Moines and some from the Greater Des Moines Home Show.   We knew within a few minutes of walking in the front door of our home that it was perfect for us.  Superior craftsmanship was complimented by outstanding décor.  Numerous features made our home stand out.  These include extensive interior finish on the walls, a floor plan that maximizes light in the living room, alder wood accents throughout our kitchen, a poured concrete bar area, and a vast master bathroom.  Our relatives and friends were all truly impressed when they walked into our new home.  We have viewed many high end homes in Des Moines over the past year and continue to feel that our home stands above any that we have viewed.  We also feel that we received a great value for the price of our home.

We highly recommend K & V Homes!

We had such a wonderful experience building with K & V. We relocated to Des Moines from Minnepolis and purchased a spec home that was not yet finished. My husband moved to Des Moines and I stayed in Minnepolis with the kids while the house was finished. He went out every day and would call to update me on the progress. Everything went according to schedule, and that definitely wasn't the case when we built our last house in Minneapolis with a much larger builder. All of our communications were direct with Colin and his follow through was impressive. Many times he identified issues even before we did and had them corrected. On weekend while visiting, I had two different contractors tell me that we were getting one of the best built homes in Des Moines. I couldn't agree more!

We've been in the house over a year now and we love it more and more. Colin has been easy to work with and made it a wonderful experience. I feel we got a very high quality home built by a builder with honest and integrity.

Dean:

I am writing to express my sincer gratitude for a building experience way beyond my expectations. Julie and I are now occupying our new home and I must say, it is even more beautiful than I expected.

I am very pleased at the way this building process was handled. You did a fantastic job and you should be proud of the end product. In my opinion, K & V Homes is an extremely high quality builder with the customer in mind at all times. You set yourself apart from other builders with honest, integrity, knowledge, follow-through, communication, cooperation, flexibility, organization and above all complete emphasis on customer satisfaction.

Julie and I changed just about everything there was to change making our home a true custom/design build process. Everything was handled beautifully. The financial changes were handled with the utmost honest and integrity, your knowledge of the home building process and the different products available today was impressive and your cooperation in dealing with us was unbelievable considering the number of changes we had. But through it all, you remained organized and focused on getting the job done on time. Your committment to follow-through with what you say is the best I have seen in my thirteen years in commercial construction. This is a trait that will serve you well in the coming years.

Bonnie and I wanted to take some time to reflect on the events of building our house and also to let you know how much we appreciated working with professionals during the construction of our new home.

We were transferred from Mahomet, Illinois to Des Moines, Iowa in June of 2000 and we were coming to Iowa with two dogs, two horses, and one cat. That in itself created problems finding a place to rent or buy. We both wanted to build a new home out in the country so we went hunting for a reliable contractor that we could trust and Bonnie could work with. I travel out of the country 85% of the time and Bonnie was going to do all the work and make all the decisions throughout the construction process. I don't know how many contractors Bonnie talked to, but it seemed a lot. She went to look at the work that each one of them had done and talked to their references concerning the quality of their work and also their reliability for fixing problems after the construction was complete. We both were very surprised at what we found out about contractors. Some were very good but very expensive and a great deal of them were in the profession just to make a quick dollar. Well as you can imagine, we were getting very frustated and time was running out because we had only rented our house for five months and it wouldn't be easy to find another place to rent because of all the animals.

Well as it turned out the man upstairs was looking out for us. We went to the bank and talked to our loan officer and were telling her all about the difficulties we were running into and she looked at us and said, I know just the contractor for you! We said 'Let us talk to him.' The very next day we met Colin King and Dean Vogel in the conference room at the bank and we all hit it off the very first hour. We decided on the house plan within a week and we asked Colin how long it would take to build the house. He said four months! We couldn't believe our ears because that was all the time we had left in our rented house. Exactly four months to the day K & V, Inc. were ready for us to move into our new house. Not only did they do quality work, they were exactly on budget.

We have lived in our new house for seven months and we have had very minor things go wrong. As soon as we found something that needed to be fixed, all we did was give Colin a call and the very next day the problem was fixed! It didn't matter how busy he was with new projects; he always takes care of the old customers .

I work for a very large engineering company in Des Moines and we do construction work all over the world and I can tell you that K & V Homes rates on the top of the list of contractors. Bonnie and Colin never had one disagreement and all of us enjoyed working together.

We purchased our home from K & V Homes last Spring. This was a new adventure for us, as we previously had only purchased properties that were already established. The location and the quality of the home was the driving force for us to purchase the new home that was available, rather than an established property. We were in the process of relocating from another state, and both very apprehensive about our decision. This was especially difficult while living miles away, unable to monitor the work that was being done. Colin and Dean were great about returning phone calls promptly, updating us on the construction progress, and helped us locate suppliers that were common to our cities. This omitted unnecessary trips to Iowa for selecting fixtures and floor coverings, allowing us extra time to evaluate styles and quality. We were amazed to see our completed home, it was better than we had hoped for!

Two years later we are still very happy with our home and take great pride in it. Colin and Dean have been the greatest builders. Every phone call placed has been returned. Any questions or concerns have been investigated and eliminated promptly. The quality and construction of our home is outstanding. We were ecstatic with our low utility bills this past winter and amazed that our home stayed so warm. While we often hear horror stories about other builders, we sit back and boast about ours. Their professionalism, quality of home building and personalities are impossible to beat. We would refer anyone to K & V Homes and would have them build another home for us!

Building a home is a big decision. We spent a couple of years looking at new construction and talking to various builders before settling on K & V Homes. After comparing K & V Homes with other new construction, the choice was clear. The quality and standard features in K & V Homes are great. While we had heard horror stories about building and were a bit apprehensive, ultimately it was a very positive experience. The builder was open, honest, always accessible, and willing to go the extra mile for us. Would we do it again? You bet. We ended up with a beautiful home that gets rave reviews!
