DREAM SPACE: Dallas Center family gets
home renovation after years of hardship

The Fowler family of Dallas Center got a warm welcome home Saturday afternoon.

The family came home to a much needed home renovation. Tom Fowler,16, suffers from a rare type of cerebral palsy. The disorder has taken away his ability to walk or care for himself. Four-years ago, Tom's mom died unexpectedly, leaving Tom's dad, Mark, to care for Tom by himself in their farmhouse. The home, old but maintained, wasn't handicap accessible. The home had no ramps and the only shower was on the second floor, making it hard for Tom's father to care for him.

Over the last three-and-a-half days volunteers spent their time remodeling Tom's bedroom, adding a second shower and installing a wheelchair ramp. The home renovation was made possible by "Project Dream Space" and K&V Homes.
